Malabar spinach is not a true spinach, but rather a climbing vine in a class by itself. Other common names include Vine Spinach, Red Vine Spinach, Creeping Spinach, and Ceylon Spinach. Even though it’s not true spinach, it has the same taste.

Malabar Spinach Uses:

  • Malabar spinach leaves can be substituted for true spinach in soups, curries, omelettes and soufflés.
  • Leaves of Malabar spinach are chewed raw to treat mouth ulcers.
  • A cup of Malabar spinach juice mixed with 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder is applied to enhance skin complexion.
